My passion is to weave everything I have learned, through life, through healing, through the seasons, into everything I offer here at The Heart Space. And from that love, from those lived years, the Six Rhythms of Rest were born.

For so long, I believed that true rest meant getting my eight hours of sleep. And yet, even after a full night, I would wake up feeling shattered. Depleted. Running on empty before the day had even begun. Over time….slowly, honestly…I began to understand that rest comes in many forms, and that what I had been missing wasn't more sleep. It was a different relationship with rest altogether.

My own nervous system has been shot. I have walked through burnout, overwhelm, and years of giving everything to everyone else and very little to myself. What transformed me wasn't one big moment. It was the slow, tender practice of coming home to my own rhythm. Of learning to sit deeper with the seasons, both the ones outside my window and the ones moving through me.

Of discovering that rest is not a reward you earn at the end of a long day. It is the foundation everything else is built on.

"Through these rhythms of rest, I have healed parts of myself I didn't even know were asking for attention.
I have settled into a deeper ease, softened into compassion, let go of what no longer serves me and created a life with more spaciousness, presence and peace. The transformation continues.
And the rest deepens."

Life isn't always easy. But it becomes easier when we create awareness, when we understand where we are, which season we are moving through, and what our body, mind and heart are truly asking for.
This is why I share rest in a completely different way to how we have been taught to understand it.

The Six Rhythms of Rest are not a programme to complete or a checklist to work through. They are a living, breathing philosophy - one I weave into every offering at the Heart Space - to help you reconnect with your own inner rhythms, move through life with more balance and ease, and find the rest that is already waiting for you.

Six Rhythms Of Rest

Finding your rhythm. Deepening your rest. Coming home to yourself.

  1. Seasonal Rest

    The Conversation Between Two Worlds
We always begin here because everything flows from here. Once you understand which season you are in, inside and out, the other rhythms naturally reveal what you need. Together they form a complete, gentle system for living with more awareness, ease and authentic rest.

We know the earth moves through spring, summer, autumn and winter in a constant, graceful cycle. But were you aware…that so do you…..within yourself. Your energy, your emotions, situations in life, all move through seasons of their own. Seasons of blooming and expansion. Seasons of releasing and letting go. Seasons of deep stillness and quiet restoration.

Seasonal Rhythm is the practice of noticing both. The season outside your window and the season you are actually living inside. Because here is the truth that changes everything: you do not have to match the world's energy. The earth may be in full, vibrant spring while you are in your own quiet inner winter. And that is not something to fix or push through, that is something to honour.

Inner Spring is the tender emergence - something new stirring starting to blossom.
Inner Summer is aliveness and expansion - energy flowing freely, a sense of fullness and joy. Inner Autumn is the release - a chapter completing, something shedding that no longer fits.
Inner Winter is the deep stillness - the turning inward, harder times, the need to hibernate.
Every season is necessary, every season is valid and every season, even the hardest ones, eventually finds its way to the next.

    What this rhythm opens up:

When you understand which season you are in, you stop fighting yourself. You stop measuring your energy against where you think you should be. You begin to move with your own natural rhythm, and from that place, everything else becomes clearer, softer, and more possible.

    How it helps

Eases the pressure to always be productive. Builds emotional resilience. Helps you trust your own fluctuating energy rather than resist it. Supports you through difficult inner seasons with compassion rather than judgement. Reminds you that seasons shift all the time and when we become more aware, our rhythms and our way of resting changes.

    Ways to live this rhythm

Noticing which inner season you are moving through and adjusting your pace with compassion. Aligning your activities with the outer season's energy…. slowing in winter, blooming in spring, expanding in summer, releasing in autumn. Marking the seasonal turning points, solstices, equinoxes, and the quiet halfway moments between them. Working with the other rhythms of rest to create balance and comfort…and so, giving yourself full permission to be in your inner season, even when the world around you has a different energy.

2. Physical Rest

The Quiet Sanctuary of the Body

Your body speaks before your mind catches up. It holds the tension you haven't named yet, the exhaustion you've been pushing through, the stillness it has been quietly asking for. Physical Rhythm is the practice of learning to hear it and responding with honesty and care.

Physical rest is not simply lying down. Sometimes it arrives through stillness eg sleeping, napping, soaking in a warm bath, letting your body truly stop. Other times, it arrives through movement that restores rather than depletes eg a yoga flow, a walk in nature, a run, the gym, a swim, a stretch that releases what you've been holding. The key is tuning in. Asking your body what it truly needs in this moment, in this season and trusting the answer, even when it surprises you.

What this rhythm opens up

A kinder, more intuitive relationship with your body. The ability to distinguish between movement that energises and movement that drains. Space to stop, to listen and actually feel a wellness of rest that’s needed within your body, that will positively nourish you.

How it helps

Replenishes energy and reduces physical tension. Supports recovery and overall health. Leaves the body feeling lighter, more at ease, and ready, or rest or for movement, in equal measure.

Ways to live this rhythm

Sleeping, napping, lying down without guilt. Restorative yoga, yin yoga, yoga flow. Mindful walks in nature. Swimming, running, or any movement that genuinely clears and restores you. Massage, soaking in a bath, reading quietly. Listening to what your body is asking for in each season and honouring it.

3. Mindset Rest

The Gentle Clarity of Mind

The mind that never stops is the mind that never truly rests. And so many of us live there….. in the endless loop of to-do lists, self-doubt, overthinking, and a quiet inner voice that is rarely kind. Finding your Mindset Rest Rhythm is the practice of creating space between the thoughts. Not silencing the mind, but softening it. Giving it permission to slow down.

This rhythm nurtures the mind by quieting mental chatter and gently calming the nervous system. It creates the conditions for clarity, presence and a kinder inner dialogue to emerge naturally. It also includes being honest about who and what you allow into your mental space, the energy you surround yourself with, the voices you listen to, the content you consume. All of it shapes the quality of your mind's rest.

What this rhythm opens up

Relief from the noise inside your own head. The ability to hear your own thoughts clearly and compassionately. A quieter, steadier inner world even when the outer world is loud.

How it helps

Eases mental fatigue and reduces anxiety. Improves focus and decision-making. Strengthens confidence and allows self-belief to return naturally. Reduces the power of the inner critic and softens imposter syndrome.

Ways to live this rhythm

Meditation, breathwork, mindful silence. Journaling to process and clear the mind. Guided relaxations. Spending time in nature without your phone. Daydreaming and quiet creative pursuits. Practicing self-compassion and gentle affirmations. Choosing to spend time with people who lift rather than drain you. Noticing and softening the inner critic with curiosity rather than resistance.

4. Emotional Rest

The Tender Harbor of the Heart

You were not made to hold it all together, all of the time….and yet so many of us do! Carrying our emotions quietly, managing them carefully, keeping them contained so we can keep going. Emotional Rhythm is the permission to feel what is actually here. Without fixing it, rushing it, or pushing it down.

This is the space where your heart feels safe to express, process, and gently work with and heal its feelings, without judgement or overwhelm. Where sadness, fear, joy, anger, grief, shame, confusion or uncertainty can arrive and be met with compassion rather than resistance. Emotional Rhythm replenishes your resilience, nurtures your capacity to connect deeply with others, and helps you return, again and again, to the tender rhythm of your own heart.

What this rhythm opens up

A safer, more honest relationship with your own emotional world. The ability to feel without being overwhelmed. Space for healing that has been waiting patiently for your attention.

How it helps

Restores emotional energy and calms the nervous system. Reduces overwhelm and emotional exhaustion. Strengthens resilience and deepens your connection to yourself and others. Creates space for genuine healing rather than simply managing how you feel.

Ways to live this rhythm

Allowing yourself to cry, laugh, or simply feel without resistance. Journaling to explore and release what you are carrying. Having honest, heart-centred conversations with people you trust. Practising gentle self-compassion, speaking to yourself as you would a dear friend. Setting and honouring boundaries that protect your emotional energy. Choosing company that leaves you feeling seen, held and fuller than before.

5. Social Rest

The Balance of Connection & Solitude

Not all company restores you. Not all solitude depletes you. Social Rhythm is the art of learning the difference and honouring what your energy truly needs, without guilt and without explanation.

We live in a world that rarely gives us permission to withdraw. To say no. To choose an evening alone over an obligation we no longer have the energy for. And yet, protecting your social energy is not selfish… it is wise. Social Rhythm helps you step back from draining interactions and constant performance, while nurturing the connections that genuinely restore you, the conversations that go deep, the friendships that feel like home, the laughter that is real.

What this rhythm opens up

The freedom to be fully present , with yourself and with others. Relationships that genuinely nourish rather than drain. The confidence to honour your own needs without apology.

How it helps

Reduces the stress of overwhelming social demands. Restores energy. Strengthens the relationships that truly matter and letting go of those that don’t. Builds confidence in solitude and in connection alike.

Ways to live this rhythm

Spending quiet, restorative time alone … without guilt! Saying no to what drains and yes to what truly restores. Setting and maintaining boundaries with kindness and clarity. Nurturing friendships that feel genuine and reciprocal. Allowing yourself the deep pleasure of real laughter, heart-to-heart conversation, and joyful, uncomplicated company.

6. Elemental Rest

The Nurture of Nature

Nature doesn't ask you to be more than you are. It doesn't require you to perform, produce, or explain yourself. Elemental Rhythm is the rest that happens when you step outside and simply let the earth hold you.

This rhythm reconnects you with the elements - earth, air, water and fire - and with the deep, instinctive part of you that belongs to the natural world. It is profoundly sensory: the feeling of grass beneath bare feet, the sound of birdsong before the world gets loud, the warmth of sunlight on skin, the sight of water moving. Your nervous system was designed for this. And when you return to it ,even briefly, something in you exhales.

What this rhythm opens up

A sense of groundedness that is hard to find indoors. Presence. Perspective. The quiet knowing that you are part of something much larger and more generous than your to-do list.

How it helps

Restores energy and reduces mental fatigue. Calms and regulates the nervous system. Grounds emotions, lifts mood and sparks creativity. Deepens your connection to yourself, to the seasons, and to the natural world.

Ways to live this rhythm

Walking barefoot on grass or earth. Sitting beside a river, lake or ocean. Feeling the wind on your face. Gardening, hands in soil, watching things grow. Watching flames. Listening to birdsong without distraction. Smelling flowers, rain, or the forest after a downpour. Eating seasonally and mindfully. Simply being outside, without agenda, without your phone.
